What is the Purpose of Art?

Ok, first of all, don’t read each others responses yet! read the question, think about it, respond. Then you may review the responses of your peers and see what they thought, if you want to comment again you may (but aren’t required to).

   I just want your initial impressions first.

   So, the question, as is obvious from the title is;

 

What is the purpose of art?

 

   You may consider that from any perspective (cultural, personal, historical, etc.) that you like. You may think about your original question, “what is art?” while you do this, and see if thinking about the “purpose” changes that original answer any.
